Los Angeles Veteran TV-Radio Newsman and Media Expert George McQuade Has Been Nominated To Lead Entertainment Publicists Professional Society (EPPS)

Los Angeles Veteran TV-Radio Newsman and Media Expert George McQuade Has Been Nominated To Lead Entertainment Publicists Professional Society (EPPS)

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) May 16, 2006

Vice President George S. McQuade III of MAYO Communications, Los Angeles, has been nominated to serve a two-year term as President of Entertainment Publicists Professional Society (EPPS), a national organization with chapters in LA and New York. The nominations for president and board positions will be voted on this Thursday, May 18th, in Hollywood at its regular meeting. Elections will be held next month.

Mc Quade has served on the board for the last three years, writing articles about EPPS events and media workshops for http://www.odwyerpr.com the number one website for original "public relations news" according to Google. O’Dwyer also produces a weekly newsletter on behind-the-scenes of public relations firms, media workshops, marketing communications trends, publicity and entertainment news.

O’dwyer also publishes a national monthly magazine out of New York.

“It was McQuade’s coverage as the West Coast Bureau Chief in Los Angeles and ours in New York, we believe, that has helped grow EPPS membership,” said Publisher Jack O’Dwyer, O’Dwyer Publications, Manhattan, NY. “McQuade is the perfect choice and team leader to take the entertainment organization to the next level.”

Mc Quade is no stranger to entertainment publicity. More than a decade ago he helped organize and publicize several of Stevie Wonder’s benefit concerts for STITCHES Technology, a South Central LA nonprofit that taught disadvantaged residents how to design clothes on computers. Last fall he represented the cast of Palmetto Pointe, PAX TV, which was a group of actors from the best of teen dramas such as Beverly Hills 91210, One Tree Hill to USA TEEN HIGH, and an award-winning child actress.

From 1989-92, McQuade was a network correspondent for NBC Mutual News and ABC Entertainment News Network covering everything from the Actress Zsa Zsa Gabor's cop slapping trial to the Barbara Streisand first benefit concert in 20 years for a fundraiser for President Clinton in Beverly Hills, CA. McQuade also was a writer for the 90-minuteToday In LA Weekends, KNBC-TV, Burbank, that included copy for Entertainment Anchor/Reporter David Sheehan. Sheehan, who retired in 2003, was the first entertainment reviewer-reporter on any local news program.

McQuade also reported on high profile stories for AP, UPI, CBS, KFI and KNX, Los Angeles. He is currently vice president and co-founder of MAYO Communications, a full service national publicity firm with offices in San Diego and New York. He has earned many journalism awards from Radio TV News Association of SoCal, Associated Press TV and Radio Association and Public Relations Society of America. McQuade received a Medal of Valor in 1998 from the California State Firefighters Association and a hero’s award from the Los Angeles City Council for rescuing a noted UCLA cardiologist from his burning vehicle in Tarzana, CA. McQuade is married with two sons and resides in Los Angeles, CA.

“We have an exciting new board coming up, I want to expand on the industry mixers, educational workshops and benefits that convinced me to join EPPS,” said McQuade, an EPPS Board member and vice president, MAYO Communications. “EPPS attracts the best and represents the best in entertainment publicity.”

Future of Media Event Gives Insight into Digital-First Strategies, Start-Up Collaboration and Paywalls

Future of Media Event Gives Insight into Digital-First Strategies, Start-Up Collaboration and Paywalls

Future of Media panel on stage April 6 at the Drake Hotel in Toronto. From left to right: David Silverberg (Digital Journal), Jamie Angus (BBC), Jon Taylor (Bell Media), Chris Boutet (National Post), Kathy Vey (OpenFile) and Mathew Ingram (GigaOM).

(PRWEB) April 11, 2011

It was an evening filled with intriguing debate, thoughtful predictions and meaty conversation on challenges facing media today. Executives and editors from the BBC, Bell Media, the National Post, OpenFile and GigaOm gathered at Digital Journal’s recent Future of Media event to talk about the media’s future.

The event took place April 6 at The Drake Hotel in Toronto. The panel included: Jamie Angus, acting head of news at BBC World News; Jon Taylor, senior director of content for Bell Media Digital; Chris Boutet, senior producer for digital media at the National Post; Mathew Ingram, a senior writer at GigaOM; and Kathy Vey, editor-in-chief of OpenFile. The discussion was moderated by David Silverberg, managing editor of Digital Journal.

“People continue to tell us how much they appreciate the fresh, new perspective at our Future of Media events,” said Chris Hogg, CEO of Digital Journal, Inc. “Our goal is to create an informative and entertaining discussion around media involving the leaders who continue to shape and define the industry. We found our April event to be particularly thought-provoking, and attendees are telling us it offered important predictions on upcoming media trends.”

Overall, the panel agreed media’s future may not be as bleak as negative headlines suggest, and innovation continues push journalism in an optimistic direction. Speakers also raised points on how media is adapting to the digital era.

Jamie Angus, acting head of news at BBC World News, predicted social media activity on the ground in hot spots such as Egypt will continue to weave into the news cycle at major outlets such as the BBC. But he wondered how challenging it will be in the future to verify news via social media tools such as Twitter.

Chris Boutet, senior producer for digital media at the National Post, explained the importance of his news outlet going “digital first,” meaning the newsroom focus is trained on the digital product first and the print product last.

Jon Taylor, senior director of content for Bell Media Digital, spoke about the rise of mobile tech in journalism and what he foresees as a platform convergence between television, online and smartphones.

Kathy Vey, editor-in-chief of collaborative news outlet OpenFile, discussed the burgeoning trends of news start-ups in Canada and the U.S., and she related her experience of finding local stories other news outlets may have ignored.

Mathew Ingram, a senior writer at GigaOM, argued with BBC’s Angus over paywalls sprouting up on sites such as Times of London and the New York Times, saying such a barrier for readers creates “a very expensive newsletter.” Angus agreed paywalls may not be popular, but said media organizations who incorporate one may be ahead of their time, and revenue from paywalls may allow media outlets invest more in the digital media space.

A Q&A session included questions on augmented reality, mobile app development and citizen journalism.
Full video coverage will be available free on the Future of Media website.
